A hypercar that runs solely on electricity and is worth £2million ($2.5million) has been spotted cruising around New York. This vehicle boasts an impressive 1,900 horsepower under the hood.
The Pininfarina Battista, an electric hyper GT, has impressive speed capabilities. It can reach 60mph (100km/h) faster than an F1 car and exceed speeds of 180mph (290km/h) before an F-16 fighter jet. The car’s electric motors, powered by a 120 kWh battery, can propel it to a top speed of 217mph (350km/h). A prototype was showcased last month and displayed again at the Javits Center for the New York International Auto Show. Production is set to begin next year, and the creators claim that the Battista will be the world’s first luxury electric hyper GT and the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built in Italy. It is also expected to have a range of 280 miles. Check out the video of the £2M all-electric supercar Pininfarina Battista debuting in New York.
Introducing the Pininfarina Battista, a guilt-free hypercar that is set to be released in 2020 for a whopping £2 million. For the super-rich of the world, this car offers a unique combination of speed, sustainability, and luxury without any guilt associated with pollution and poor air quality caused by petrol and diesel cars. Only 150 units of the car will be produced, with half of the US allowance already reserved by eager customers, while the other half will be set for Europe and Asia. The car boasts an eye-catching design that features lift and tilt butterfly wing style doors similar to the McLaren 720S. Three versions of the car were showcased at Europe’s first major motor show in Geneva, Switzerland and later in New York. It is just the first in a range of cars under the name Pininfarina, which is linked to one of the most famous family automotive styling houses in the world. The car is named after the late Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, who founded the Italian automobile design house Pininfarina in 1930, which will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year.
The arrangement of the 120 kWh T-shaped battery, which is cooled with liquid and consists of a blend of nickel, manganese and lithium, is designed to enhance the vehicle’s performance capabilities.
The production of the car is limited to only 150 units, out of which 50 are designated for the US market, with half of those already reserved by eager customers. Another 50 are set for release in both Europe and Asia. Sergio, the son of the founder who passed away in 2012 at 85, was responsible for designing some of the most iconic sports cars and supercars of the 20th and 21st century, including several Ferrari models like the Testarossa (1984), Enzo (2002), and the Dino series (1968-76), which helped Ferrari break into the mass market. Today, the Pininfarina firm is chaired by Battista’s grandson Paolo, who considers it a dream come true to release a car carrying the Pininfarina name as a tribute to his grandfather. The vehicle features a single-cell carbon-fibre monocoque with battery packs located between the front seats and behind the rear bulkhead. It is equipped with four motors – one per wheel, and the T-shaped liquid-cooled 120 kWh battery is made from a blend of lithium, manganese, and nickel, designed to optimise the car’s dynamics. While the majority of owners are expected to charge their vehicles at home, the company anticipates app-based charging networks to be available by 2021 to serve the remaining 10% of customers.
The ultra-wealthy individuals of the world can now enjoy both speed and eco-friendliness with the latest trend of sustainable luxury cars. This comes at a time when traditional petrol and diesel vehicles are under scrutiny for their contribution to pollution and harmful air quality. With these new vehicles, the super-rich can indulge in luxury without any guilt or environmental concerns.
With an impressive power output exceeding that of a Formula 1 car, the Battista is set to achieve a remarkable acceleration time of under two seconds to reach 62mph and a top speed of 186mph in less than 12 seconds, as stated by its creators.
According to its creators, the upcoming Battista will be the world’s first luxury electric hyper GT and the most powerful road-legal car ever built in Italy. Equipped with massive six-piston brakes made of carbon-ceramic, it promises fade-free deceleration and effective brake regeneration to the battery. The vehicle’s active rear wing also acts as an air brake for a smoother stopping process. Although the electric power means that the car will be silent from the outside, drivers can customize the sound settings that are delivered to their ears. Automobili Pininfarina CEO Michael Perschke stated that the Battista’s range will be at least 280 miles, and the company will offer a system that charges 80 percent of the battery in 40 minutes or less. The cockpit design features two screens located on both sides of a compact steering wheel, each angled towards the driver. All the essential information is displayed on a slim center screen, and rotors beneath it are ergonomically refined to change drive mode settings. Formula E racer Nick Heidfeld has nearly 20 years of motor racing experience to draw upon to tune the car’s performance.
Within the confines of the cockpit, there exist a pair of displays positioned on either side of a small yet functional steering apparatus. These screens are cleverly angled toward the driver for optimal visibility and ease of use.
Mahindra, the Indian car giant, has provided the funding for the development of the new model.
It seems like these cars are only the beginning of what we can expect from Pininfarina as they prepare to release more vehicles under their own brand name. Pininfarina has a well-known reputation in the automotive styling industry, making this news even more exciting for car enthusiasts.
The company has announced that despite having its headquarters in Munich, Germany, the Battista will be handcrafted in Italy at the firm’s facility near Turin. The company aims to make the Battista a future classic and an automotive icon, with extreme engineering and technology packed in a zero-emissions package. The Battista is expected to be the most powerful car ever designed and built in Italy, delivering unachievable levels of performance in any road-legal sports car featuring internal combustion engine technology. The firm has assembled a group of automotive experts, including technical partners like Rimac and Pirelli, to ensure the success of the project. Investment for the project has been provided by Mahindra, an Indian car giant.
According to the company, their latest model, the Battista, is a high-performance electric car that can go from 0 to 62 mph in less than two seconds, making it faster than most Formula 1 race cars on the market. With an impressive 1,900 horsepower, this vehicle is engineered with cutting-edge technology and designed to be environmentally friendly, emitting zero emissions while in use.
According to the company, the Battista is set to become Italy’s most potent vehicle ever built and designed, scheduled to release in 2020. It will provide an unparalleled level of performance that no sports car equipped with internal combustion engine technology can achieve.
When it comes to improving the performance of the company’s vehicles, they have an expert test and development driver named Nick Heidfeld. With almost two decades of experience in high-level motor racing, Heidfeld has participated in 183 Formula One races, taken part in six 24 Hours of Le Mans races, and competed in 44 Formula E races. He has a wealth of knowledge to draw from when fine-tuning the vehicles for optimal performance.
